A young woman has been murdered in River City. Police Detective John Tower is assigned to the case but there are few clues to go on. As he digs into the case, he's soon picking up hints that this murder may not be the killer's first ... or his last.
Virgil Kelly lives in the shadowy world of the criminal underground. He's just arrived in River City with a single-minded mission: find the killer and bury him.
In his search for a murderer, Tower uses his experience and training along with all the expertise of modern forensics.
In the hunt for his prey, Kelley uses intimidation and violence, tools which he wields with precision and anger.
Virgil Kelley and John Tower are on a collision course. Somebody is going to die.
River City will never be the same.
This book was originally penned in 2004. Colin and I have revised it a few times since then, including its most recent (and most radical) revision to create a much tighter book. SOME DEGREE OF MURDER, like BLOOD ON BLOOD (my collaboration with Jim Wilsky -- more on that in a minute), is written in alternating chapters, with both characters narrating in the first person. This format creates a lot of natural tension and shows the reader a more complete picture than either character gets himself.
It was a fun book to write. Right now, one final review and light revision is in the works, as well as finalizing the book's cover. The cover shown in this post is one of the prototypes we are considering. We are looking to release the book in print and ebook formats sometime in early May. More to come!
Also, just a little tease, but...it is all but official...Jim Wilsky and I will shortly have some very cool news regarding our novel, BLOOD ON BLOOD. We've reached an agreement with a small publisher and all that remains are the legal niceties (something about a contract or something?). Anyway, watch here and at our shared blog, HardBoiled Partners in Crime, for more info soon.
Meanwhile...if you'd like to be a reviewer for SOME DEGREE OF MURDER, please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Whether you're a blog reviewer, work for a review site or mag or will simply promise a fair review on Amazon or B&N, I'd love to get you a copy of this novel to read.
