Looking Back & Forward

My appearance at the Coeur d'Alene Hastings went very well. Being that it was Black Friday, the traffic was high. I met a lot of people I'd never met before (always a plus when it comes to appearances!) and some that I knew online but hadn't met in person yet (Hi, Stacey!). As is always the case, the staff (Kathy and Simone) treated me wonderfully. And more than a few customers walked out of the store with a Frank Zafiro novel in their bag.

The following day's appearance at the Seattle Mystery Bookshop was great, too. There weren't quite as many people shopping because, as luck would have it, the weather in Seattle was uncharacteristically clear and calm. Still, I had the opportunity to visit with the staff at SMB (Fran and Janene that day) and customers. Going to Seattle to appear at SMB is a blast, and has been every time.

Looking ahead, I will appear at the Hastings in Kennewick, Washington on Saturday, December 1st from 1 PM to 4 PM. I'm looking forward to it, as this will only be the second time I've appeared at this store.

Then, the following weekend on December 8th, I will be back in Coeur d'Alene for a group event of crime writers at the Hastings from 2 PM to 5 PM. This is a recent addition to my events calendar -- the staff asked me to join the event when I was there last week. That was very kind of them and I'm looking forward to it.

Please mark your calendar for Friday, December 14 at 7:30 PM. That is when I'll be appearing at Auntie's Bookstore. Those appearances always involve a reading and some questions and answers before the book signing itself. If you're trying to decide what to do that night, come on down for the author event and have dinner downtown afterward. Makes for a nice evening.

Upcoming Appearances

On Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, I will be at the Hastings in Coeur d'Alene from 1 PM to 4 PM.

The next day, Saturday, I'm heading over to Seattle to appear at the Seattle Mystery Bookshop, a great place for mystery and crime fiction lovers. That appearance starts at noon.

Hope to see some of you there!

Story Series Accepted!

My four-story series about the characters of Shae and Laddie has been accepted for publication by Mysterical-E eZine.

The four stories are told in reverse order. "Shae," the first one to be published, is actually the last one to occur. "Laddie" is published next, but happens before "Shae." Then comes "A New Life," which happens before "Laddie" but is published afterward. The final episode, "Egyptian Eyes and Irish Lies," actually chronicles the first events to occur.

Don't worry. Each story is a stand-alone story that makes sense in its own right. The backwards telling just enhances the irony a bit.

Look for "Shae" to appear in the Spring 2008 issue of Mysterical-E. After that, one story will appear in each issue throughout the four issues of 2008.

Mysterical-E is a great eZine. I've had stories published there in the past. My story, "And a Fall Cometh" (a sequel to the Seven by Seven PRIDE entry, "Pride Goeth") will be in the Winter 2007 issue, along with an article I wrote about Cops and Civilians. But aside from my own work, Mysterical-E publishes quality crime fiction in every issue, along with some great illustrations.

You can find the eZine here:

I recommend a look.

BORDERS Appearance

My appearance Saturday at Borders in north Spokane went very well. There was a steady flow of traffic and the customers were very gracious. It is always gratifying to hear a reader who is new to your work say, "Sure, I'll give it a try."

I've included a picture of the appearance. Don't let the chair fool you -- the only time I sat down was for this photo!

Thanks to Kraig, the book manager at Borders and to the wonderful staff there. I'm looking forward to a return trip in the Spring.

Meanwhile, next up in the appearance arena are a pair of dates right after Thanksgiving. I'll be in Coeur d'Alene the Friday after Thanksgiving at the Hastings there. Then I'll be at the Seattle Mystery Bookstore on Saturday.

You can check my website under APPEARANCES for updated information.

Welcome, folks.

This is where I'll be doing my blogging from now on -- for technical reasons. Hope you come by often.

This is where I used to blog:

Before that...

But now I'm here!

I've reposted my most recent blogs at the old site below.

Appearance News!

Don’t forget – tomorrow at 1 PM, I’ll be appearing at the BORDERS in north Spokane. Hope to see a lot of friendly faces, old and new.

Also, I will be appearing in Kennewick, WA at the Hastings Bookstore on December 1st, 2007 at 1 PM. If you’re in the Tri-Cities, please stop by.

Lastly, I did an appearance at a private bookclub at Rockwood Lane last night. I just wanted to say thank you to a wonderful crowd that showed up. Many were in the bookclub, but others showed up for the event as well. The questions were great from the group and I really appreciated the enthusiasm. Thanks to Rockwood Lane for having me!
